Meet Julio

CHIEF COURAGE OFFICER

Julio Alvarez

I’m a trusted guide to Fortune 100 leaders, founders, and high-achievers who are ready to lead with more courage and less fear. I coach executives, speak on global stages, and—when I remember—drink enough water.

In 2021 created The Technology of Courage™, a framework designed to help leaders move beyond burnout, perfectionism, and self-doubt—so they can lead with confidence, clarity, and heart.

What sets my coaching apart

My journey

First-Generation Latino. Gay. Born cross-eyed from teenage parents, then adopted in High School. I know the hustle for worthiness, the struggle for love and belonging. My father was relentless in making me feel small because I was different. When I was only a teenager, he kicked me out of the house – and that was really hard.

Me with family in Ecuador – a different life for sure

I channeled that pain towards service, putting energy where I could feel valued. This kept me busy and led me to become a young community organizer – from leadership trainings to building homes with Habitat for Humanity. I even met my adopted parents through the Rotary Club.

I landed a full scholarship to NYU, followed by highly sought after roles in Silicon Valley – first at Apple, helping to introduce the world to iPad. Then Google, Tumblr, Airbnb, Lyft. I worked along the smartest people in the world to scale teams, launch products, support IPOs. Success hit fast, as did the struggle for worthiness being one of very few minorities in the room.

I tried suppressing all that shame, fear and struggle for worthiness by doing more. I found myself working hard and fighting monsters inside. I became so focused on trying to perform and perfect that I lost track of myself. The busier I got, the less connected to my power I was.

Then I kept getting fired for being “well intentioned, but poorly implemented.”

All of a sudden I was a young boy in pain, rejected and unworthy of love and belonging. And that’s when the inner work began, starting with a coach.

Everyone wants to be brave.

But who here really wants to be vulnerable?

The truth is, we all feel afraid at times. We have to honor that fear and work through it, not bury it. And do so with an open mind, open heart, and lots of curiosity.

There’s a lot of hysteria around us. But with a coach in your corner, you can do something different — see it for what it is and go beyond what you imagined was possible.

We actually can take responsibility for our lives, step into our most authentic selves, and consciously strengthen the skills that make us human:

Courage, Compassion, Connection.

Built. Launched. Led.

Before coaching leaders, I spent 15 years shaping some of the most impactful products in tech.

I helped launch:

  • The iPad at Apple

  • Google Drive and Year in Search at Google

  • Premium Homes at Airbnb

  • Self-driving cars at Lyft

The lessons I learned—from scaling teams to making high-stakes decisions—now shape how I coach today’s leaders.
